It’s your SENIOR YEAR!! Whether you’re graduating from high school or college, this is a big deal. Now that the school year has begun, here’s the question on everyone’s mind: Should you take senior photos in the Fall or Spring?? 🍁🌸
Honestly, both seasons are great in Austin, Texas, but there are some key differences. Depending on the location of your session, the outfits you want to wear, and how you’ll use your photos, you may prefer either the Fall or Spring.
Here’s a breakdown to help you decide. 👇👇
✨The weather is very similar during both seasons. You could easily wear a sundress or a sweater in October/November or February/March.
✨Downtown locations look the same throughout the year. These locations don’t depend much on greenery.
✨Both seasons are busy for photographers. Be sure you contact your favorite photographer (hiiiii 👋) early to get on their calendar.
✨Most natural locations are more green in the Spring, but you’ll need to wait until after mid-March. April and May are the most green.
✨Late Fall has the potential for colorful leaves on the trees.
✨We can find wildflowers in the Spring.
✨In the late Spring, you’re more likely to have your cap & gown. I wouldn’t let this stop you from taking your photos earlier though, because some seniors don’t get their gowns until shortly before graduation. Instead, ask around to see if you can borrow one from a friend, or just skip the cap & gown photos. (They’re rarely the favorites anyway.)
✨Fall sessions allow more time to get your photos printed and incorporated into custom cards. You can also consider giving printed photos to family members as Christmas gifts.
✨Fall sessions allow you to use your photos throughout your whole senior year. We see a lot of #SeniorSunday posts on Instagram at the start of the school year!
This photo was taken in October! Sometimes you can get lucky and find colorful wildflowers in the Fall too.
My Fall + Spring Sessions collection allows you to schedule two separate sessions one in the Fall (September–December) and one in the Spring (late February–May). This means you’d have tons of variety in your photos! More outfits, more backgrounds, different vibes all together.
